How to acid stonewash a knife. The basics. Media
Published: 7 years ago
My basic process for acid stonewashing. Every knife maker may differ. This by no means the only or best method/ process but it works for me.
The basic process I follow is as follows.
1. Grind/ heat treat the knife
2. Shape the handles
3. Form the sheath
4. Prep the knife for acid stonewashing
5. Sandblast then after wiping clean immediately into the acid solution.
6. After removing from acid a quick dip into Windex or ammonia wipe clean and go into to stonewash.
You can use as simple a method as stones in a container large enough or a fancy tumbler.
As mentioned in the video I use generally a 50/50 mix of ferric chloride and vinegar or water.
