Why does the 111mm GAK have a left handed liner lock

I have heard a half dozen theories about why the 111 mm GAK has a so-called left handed liner lock. The first thing one needs to remember the, the knife was made to be "one handed opening." It was never said to be one handed closing. But even a right handed person can do it with practice.
