My Grandpa T's Camp Knife - Collection Selection No.59
Published: 5 years ago
Today would have been my Grandpa T's 106th birthday ... Like many, my grandfather, a child of the Great Depression, showed me how to fish, how to draw and make things, how think within a self-reliant framework and he gave me my first knife. This Camillus camp knife, from God-knows-when, is that knife. Throughout my childhood it was the tool I took into the woods to sharpen sticks, make bows and arrows, play mumbly-peg, or just whittle. It was well used and loved when he gave it to me, with a high-carbon blade that had been sharped to a straight edge and an awl that is still a go-to tool for me today. This knife reminds me that I should appreciate and maintain what I have. I am a consumer, just look at this channel, but it's always good to have a reminder that times weren't always so fat and this knife is that for me. If I had to liquidate my entire collection, this would probably be the last one to go … Happy Birthday Grandpa!
