Edgepro Apex Tutorial : 3000-Grit Tape and Leather Strop

Published: 11 years ago

This is a 2-part series on sharpening a dull knife using the Edgepro Apex sharpening system and a 2-sided leather strop. You'll see how to re-profile the main bevel, apply a scalpel-sharp micro-bevel cutting edge, and achieve a mirror polished bevel and cutting edge. Please remember, although the principles are universal, sharpening is not an exact science. Each individual sharpener might have skills tailored to his hands and eyes, and each person might have different desired levels of appearance and performance of his finished product. That said, I'll appreciate all constructive criticism and suggestions, but be polite in your comments. I've been doing this pretty effectively for many years. If you're learning how to sharpen, I hope this video helps you to develop your skills. Don't hesitate to comment or send me a PM if you have any questions. I'll be glad to help.

The tools used in this series are listed here: Edgepro Apex Kit 1 Sharpening System, 220-grit aluminum oxide stone, 400-grit aluminum oxide stone, 1000-grit aluminum oxide stone, 3000-grit polishing tape, Leather strop with gray jeweler's rouge compound, Leather strop with green jeweler's rouge compound.

In this Part 2 of the series, I demonstrate and explain how I use the 3000-grit polishing tape and a 2-sided leather strop to finish the sharpening process and achieve a scalpel-sharp polished and durable edge.
