Chris Reeve Umnumzaan Initial Review: Unexpected Excellence

Published: 10 years ago

Here's my initial review of the Chris Reeve Umnumzaan. Thanks to my viewer Cory for letting it hang out with me for review for a bit. Although this one is a "guest blade," I still consider this an "initial" review. That's right, a lefty Umnum will certainly find its way into my collection soon!

My impressions of this knife are frankly not what I expected. I have always regarded the Umnumzaan as sort of a "less than" blade in comparison with the vaunted Sebenza. I think it suffers from a great deal of "group think" mischaracterization, both on YouTube and the forums. In reality, it is not stronger than a Sebenza, and it's not an improvement upon the Sebenza. But it's not a step back for CRK either, with lower quality wrapped in a pretty package.

What the Umnumzaan IS, is a completely different knife, and deserving of our respect for completely different reasons, than a Sebenza. So, my friends, join me as we explore this great knife from CRK!
