From the Sharpening Bench: Benchmade 300 Ball Axis Flipper

Published: 10 years ago

This is a sort of initial impression video of the Benchmade 300 Ball Axis Flipper. It's constructed of tried and true Benchmade materials, stainless steel lined G10 handle, Axis Lock and 154CM steel. Build quality and fit & finish are excellent, and the blade shape is extremely functional for utlitity work and slicing. But at 4.8 ounces in a 3.1" bladed folder, it's a bit chunky for EDC and a bit short for tactical use. Also, the flipper is more than a little unnecessary in an Axis Lock folder, and perhaps detracts from the knife's overall design and operation. But if Benchmade's purpose was simply to bring a flipper knife to market while the flipper market is hot, they did so. I just wish they would have done it in a platform that works better as a flipper than the Axis Lock mechanism does. But all in all, it's a very well-made knife.
