Welcome everyone to the Tactical Tavern! I am your host Tomas Alas and in this video we are reviewing the Pyro-Pack from Shomer-Tec.
This piece of lifesaving gear is a minimalist emergency fire kit. It allows the user to get fires going in foul weather conditions. I can see this being useful to have in your bug-out bags, go-bags, vehicle survival kits, and any other outdoor adventure load-out. Part of the 10 essentials is a way (preferably 3) to get a fire going and this certainly gives you some options.
In the kit you will receive a ferrocerium rod, ceramic fire scraper, 10 waxed jute strands, a magnesium card, breakable cedar wood fire card, and ripstop nylon bifold sleeve measuring in 2.5” x 4.3” x 0.4” (folded).
This kit only weighs in at 1.2oz. It's ultra lightweight making it ideal for backpackers and ensures you will have it on you when you need it most.
What I really enjoy is that each part of the kit is multi-functional. For example the ceramic fire scraper is able to double as a sharpening device for quick touch ups in the field. You can also use the rip stop nylon case as a way to collect your magnesium shavings and transport them closer to your tinder bundle.
Never be left in the cold again with the compact and versatile Pyro-Pack!
What is your current outdoor adventure fire set up?
Do you rely on a bic lighter and hope it doesn't run out of juice? Are you practicing primitive fire starting methods?
