Generation 2 Specifications

For Generation 2, the Bear Claw is constructed from 6.7 mm SKS51 tool steel, providing exceptional toughness, durability, and edge stability for heavy-duty outdoor use

Introduction to SKS51 Steel

Japanese SKS51 steel, a high-carbon alloy tool steel renowned for its outstanding balance of toughness, flexibility, and wear resistance. Often compared to steels such as L6 and 80CrV2, SKS51 was originally developed for industrial cutting tools and saw blades that must withstand repeated impacts and heavy workloads without failure.

Unlike SK85, which is a plain high-carbon steel, SKS51 contains alloying elements such as nickel and chromium that significantly enhance its toughness and shock resistance. While SK85 offers good edge performance, it can be more susceptible to chipping under extreme stress. SKS51, on the other hand, is specifically valued for its ability to absorb impacts and resist damage during demanding tasks.
