Rob’s Ramblings… Buy what you love & love what you buy… it’s your collection after all!

Buy/collect what you love/like and love/like what you buy/collect. This is a long spoken truism of mine that I believe applies to most folks, if not all. Basically, your collection is your collections and how that collection brings you joy or how you enjoy it really up to you. No one else’s opinion or approval is needed. Now, that does not mean that friends cannot celebrate things that bring other friends joy or happiness. That is the whole part of the knife community… it is build up and encourage one another.
If you are stuck correcting, directly, ‘helping people to really understand’, removing ignorance, etc., then I would challenge you to see what is your motivation.
1.) Do you share things like metallurgy/steel compositions, manufacturing, costs, skill required for certain outcomes, technical knowledge, safety, metal fatigue, tensile strength, steel malleableness , etc.?
2.) Or do you share based on your personal aesthetics, your own preferences, your own physiological ergonomics, how you like or feel a knife should be used, what is the only purpose of a knife, etc.?
Number 1 is based mostly on facts that could assist people in knife purchases, but can still be prone to subjective evaluation. Number 2 is almost completely subjective and really up to individual. Now, Number 2 can find common ground and agreement in a circle of friends or collectors, which might make you think it is fact and not opinion.
In the end, knife collecting is all up to you for your collection and me for my collection. Yes, I do a livestream, but I do it as an enthusiast who loves knives. My knives in my collection are ones I enjoy. I do admit there are 2 things that happen… the positive… I get to check a lot more knives out than I would ever do as a non-channel. The negative… I do sell many knives I would love to collect for a longer period time, in order to buy more knives to review. In the end, I keep and sell based on what I love and what brings me joy. The same should always apply to you; therefore, happy hunting/collection/fidgeting/slicing/flipping/carrying! Let’s celebrate our common love for knives, regardless of what we collect.
