Unboxing the Petrified Fish Scholar and the Kizer Comfort pocketknives, two unique front flippers.
Published: 2 years ago
The Petrified Fish Scholar is a handsome front flipper pocketknife that evokes the look of a traditional straight razor. With 154CM steel and olive wood handles, a hollow grind, and a generous 3.7-inch blade, this knife is an attractive offering at $69.
The Kizer Comfort, also a front flipper in 154CM, has a thick handle with contoured red G10 scales. At first look, this might appear to be a Scandi grind, but it’s actually a flat saber grind with a secondary bevel. If not for the pocket clip, this knife would really live up to its name with a hand-filling, comfortable grip.
I also look at some comparable styles from other manufacturers, such as the straight-razor inspired Quadrant and Flatiron from Gerber, and the hand-filling chonk of CRKT’s No Time Off and Bestech’s Hornet.
