Military Pocketknives of the World (and why the U.S. doesn't have a standard issue pocketknife)

Everybody knows the Swiss Army Knife. Did you know that there are also standard-issue pocketknives in France and the UK? Many nations equip their militaries with pocketknives. In the U.S., though, there isn't a universal standard. Some military units do equip their personnel with mission-specific pocketknives, such as the Spyderco Autonomy provided to rescue swimmers in the United States Coast Guard. But more often, American troops supply their own pocketknives, selected from many tactical tools available from manufacturers including Benchmade, Cold Steel, Ontario, Gerber, Leatherman, and Microtech, among others. Let's take a look at some military pocket knives from other nations, and discuss the options available to Americans.
