Nick's Quick Tips: How to remove an unconventional screw or fastener without damaging it

Published: 8 years ago

Just a little tip today, picked up from the Watch Repair Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/jewldood). If you've got a fastener or screw that's going to be tough to manipulate without 'slipping off' or otherwise injuring the surroundings, use a thick-ish plastic baggie as a buffer between the driver and the fastener. Not only does it help to pad the margins a bit, but it reduces the chances of your driver scratching anything up even if it does come loose. Usually isn't needed for Torx or Allen (and often the tolerances are too tight), but for flatheads or other weird fasteners, it's a beautiful thing.
