I was out kayaking with pops today and decided to revisit a favorite past time. Growing up on the lake taught me a way to catch turtles as they bask in the sun, which has always been very effective.
In a survival situation this method could serve as a good, secure way to obtain food. Make sure to prepare the turtle properly as reptiles, especially aquatic ones can be loaded with parasites.
On that note, I find the best way to prepare a turtle is making a stew. Many species have bits of fat that create a tasteful broth. I have eaten it twice before, both in survival situations where I needed the protein. Otherwise I just don’t have the heart to eat these perfectly adapted creatures that have remained virtually unchanged for hundreds of millions of years. So much respect for these animals.
