Opening my “ShadowDancer” custom built-katana from Swordis.com. Originally was a little bit skeptical about this website, but this and the short sword I have acquired from them have wowed me out of the box. The owners of the website are big sword fanatics and take pride and creating accurate historical replicas.
What’s cool about their katana builder as you can create your own custom katana from the ground up. There are varying levels of customization options at prices that start at $130 and go into the thousands.
I have named my katana Coco and she is slayer of melons. Here are some of the specifics about her:
-Shinogi-Zukuri blade shape
-1095 carbon steel, clay tempered with Ko-Choji hamon pattern (means “small clove flower”)
-dark brown tskuka (handle) wrapping over ray skin
-antique brass menuki (small ornamental pieces placed under the handle wrap)
-large brass tsuba (guard)
-brass blade collar
-brass spacers
-wooden scabbard with lacquered finish that looks like raindrops
-brown Sageo (cord) on the scabbard to match the handle
-upgraded buffalo horn fittings for the scabbard mouth and end cap
Very pleased and happy with how the sword turned out!
