Compound Grinds: what they are and why they are useful. The KETUO Yakuza is a *great* example of a compound grind. It boasts a “flat grind” near the tip and a “hollow grind” in the center. The hollow grind along the majority length of the blade creates an ideal cutting and slicing edge whereas the flat grind (towards the tip of the blade) provides more reinforcement for powerful piercing cuts.
Compound grinds look attractive and provide functionality but are generally more difficult to manufacture.
