The Reate Mantis is a premium folder that doubles as a functional EDC. It’s one of my prettiest snags of the year, and the machining is impeccable.
The Mantis’s uniquely design pivot screw gives it a special appearance, one that appears almost *screwless* on the frame. The design comes from Alvin Lee - the mind behind the Reate Terminator (a very standout, over-built collectors piece I covered years back).
There are fancy touches like a replaceable locker bar, hidden serial number, and engraved designer signature. Though I appreciate the aesthetic value that the “thumb studs” add, I have a hard time finding leverage over them for openings so I prefer the flipper tab deployment of this knife.
It’s one of those knives that’s looks pretty but feels like a tank (and with Elmax blade steel too boot!). These recently became a viable at some retailers like DLTtrading and Cranes Cutlery.
