The CRKT x Hogue Xolotl Automatic was released earlier this week, and today I’m using it to talk about one of the most asked questions I get when it comes to OTF knives, “Will it go off in my pocket?” Absolutely not! For an OTF knife to go off, you have to be extremely intentional about activating the switch. It is a very hard and specific pressure in a certain direction. OTF knives also have built-in fail safe systems to make sure they do not injured the user like this. That being said, when the knife is intentionally deployed and locked out, then it becomes dangerous/lethal.
All that being said, this was a good reason to show off the latest addition to my automatic knife collection, the CRKT Xolotl Autoamtic. Designed by veteran and former Green Beret Michael Rodriguez, the original Xolotl is a folding design that became very popular in the CRKT lineup. Aesthetically, it’s one of my personal favorite designs from CRKT, so when I found out that they were making an automatic version of it, I had to get my hands on it. This is from their Made in the USA series. It is $324 and features Magnacut steel with titanium nitrate finish. Like the folding Xolotl, it has a thinner sleek handle profile.
