When MKC asked me if I wanted to check out their new chopper, I said heck yeah! I would love to take this out and go after a tree with it back home but for now I just had some hard pine logs I got to awkwardly hold and a variety of firewood here at the Airbnb.
I ran it through quite a bit of chopping (not all of which was videoed) and It kept the edge really well. The grind is a high flat which can bring the tip down to a really sharp edge. This can also get stuck at times Which is the price you pay for having a razor sharp chopper. I really like the shape of the blade and the forward momentum brought downward without me. having to swing really hard. It felt similar to the chopping experience of a khukri with a slightly higher chance of sticking due to the blade stock thickness being a little thinner. I tend to like the thinner blades on big knives because you can do some detail work with them. This one met a good balance point that if it were any thinner, I would not like it, but it was still thick enough to be good at batoning and chopping overall.
This drops today at 7pm Mountain time on the MKC website. It will probably sell out in 3 minutes ???? (all of their models seem to).
