Unboxing Surprising Budget Knives

Published: 1 week ago

(Product link in lower left of video - Must use code MELISSAMILLER to get the bet pricing :). Pleasantly surprised today - this was my First time experiencing HX Outdoors. I am trying show more budget brands on the channel so here we go.

First impressions: I really like the Rocket Sapphire Pocket Knife for its price. It feels more expensive than $30 ($27 with code MelissaMiller”). I would guess it at the $60 or $70 price point. I’ve never held titanium handle at this low of a price. I’m not the biggest fan of the tri-screw pocket clip because I prefer deep-carry snd less bulky. The profile of the knife reminds me much of a Civivi Mini Praxis (compact + functional). The blade is D2 (which despite what some people say, when done properly, is a fine budget steel).

The Fixed Blade ($89 or $76 with code “MelissaMiller”) was loaded with features, perhaps too many lol. The hammer pommel is a cool concept for things like hammering tent stakes, bashing, etc but it threw the knife balance off for me. The lashing screws are great for adding paracord and attaching to a spear, but because of them I can’t remove the scales. The handle felt very ergonomic and I like the subtle thumb ramping at the base of the spine. I also like the deep finger coil for precision work. The sheath is great - the retention and knife “click in”. I like the optional added security strap and snap for the handle. The Ferro rod is an added bonus and I like how it is attached to the top of the sheath. I like the additional grinding done on the spine of the knife to make it sharper so it throws better sparks. It is made with DC53 steel which is unfamiliar to me. I read that it is a superior D2 and made in Japan. I got confident, and decided to try a “Peterbiltknife guy inspired” nail test…That is where I attemeot to hammer the knife through a nail but hitting the spine with a hammer and the edge placed across a nail. It did indeed chip the edge a little bit (not uncommon). Blade is just shy of 4 inches (3.8”/ 9.6cm). I think if they extended that length a bit longer it would balance it out well.
