Knife that won Best Fixed Blade
Published: 4 months ago
I feel like you don’t see too many Nessmuk blades these days and I was pretty excited to check this out. The GiantMouse GMF1 XL (yeah that’s a mouth full) is a made-in-Italy fixed Blade. It was awarded “Best Fixed Blade” at the world’s largest Knife show, Blade Show (so you know it had some stiff competition). Jim (one of the GM’s owners)from GiantMouse was kind enough to give me one at the show.
I have found that it is a slightly more compact fixed Blade with a very robust feel. It has Elmax blade steel and copper handle scales that are also removable (the tang is skeletonized if you want to wrap some Paracord around it instead to make it more lightweight). They also have it in green canvas micarta which I think functionally I would prefer but I really love the look of the brass patina
I did some rope cutting with various types of rope (just recently purchased a ton at Home Depot ha ha). I really like the subtle curve of this Nessie which adds a lot of length to the cutting edge. I really like the look of the brass which develops a pretty patina overtime. Then that Piercy tip made me think it would be fun to use it on the chicken thighs I was having for dinner (it worked really well getting into the nooks and crannies).
