Case CopperLock Wharncliffe Review | I’m Falling Down the Case Rabbit Hole!

Today we’re going traditional again with a Case CopperLock Wharncliffe, and apparently I’m falling even deeper down the Case knife rabbit hole!
I work part-time at a local knife store, and every now and then something really interesting comes through as part of a collection. This one immediately caught my eye. It’s a Case 27864 CopperLock, featuring a Wharncliffe stainless steel blade and beautiful Green Apple Peach Seed Jigged Bone handles.
This is a larger traditional knife than the little trappers I normally find myself carrying, and the locking CopperLock design makes it a little different from the traditional slip joints I’ve been getting into lately.

The Wharncliffe blade is what really sold me on this one. It has that long, straight cutting edge and a very aggressive, useful point that makes it a great choice for everyday tasks like opening packages, cutting tape, opening letters, and general EDC work.
And yes, this one will be getting sharpened. Most of my Case knives eventually get an edge from me, and I’m looking forward to getting this Wharncliffe dialed in.
I also really like the Green Apple jigged bone. The jigging gives the handle plenty of character, while the nickel bolsters, brass pins, and traditional Case styling keep it looking like a classic American traditional knife.
The CopperLock is a larger traditional knife for me, especially compared with the small trappers I usually carry, but I think this one will make a great pocket knife with a simple leather slip.
This knife came from a collection along with another CopperLock that was a First Production model. That one may be more collectible, but I personally prefer the clean, relatively understated look of this Wharncliffe.
So this is another step down the traditional knife rabbit hole—and I’m not sure how deep I’m going to go. Thankfully, I’ve mostly limited myself to Wharncliffe traditional knives, so surely I’ll be fine… right?
