Today we're taking a detailed look at the Hellbender Blade Co. Newt, a tiny USA-made fixed blade that might just be one of the most practical pocket EDC knives I've carried.
The Newt combines a 2" MagnaCut cutting edge, natural micarta handles, a full-tang construction, and an incredibly light 1.8 ounce carry weight with the clip. After sharpening the original edge on my TSProf, this little knife has become an exceptionally slicey and capable EDC cutter for cardboard, rope, packages, food prep, and everyday cutting tasks.
I'll go over the Newt's unique wire-clip setup and multiple carry options, ergonomics, blade geometry, edge performance, dimensions, weight, and how it compares in size to knives like the Benchmade Bugout, TRM Tagalong, T.DENNY Apprentice Street Scalpel, Lucky Dog RanchDog, and Creeley Blades Mako.
At around $135, the Newt offers a lot of performance in a very small package—and if you're looking for a lightweight, pocketable fixed blade in MagnaCut, this one deserves a serious look.
