Spyderco Meerkat Cut Test: Why Not?
Published: 7 years ago
So here it is, my first venture into the world of cut tests. Certainly not a pretty video, and I apologize for the sight of my hairy legs and hobbit feet. If I do this again, I'll try to be much better at keeping the knife in frame.
But I'm posting this content more than anything to show how you never understand a knife until you really use it. Early in the test I remark about the knife being comfortable in hand. But once I start cutting wood it becomes apparent that it would not be ideal for long term, heavy use. Those are the types of things I look for when using the knife, much more so than edge retention over such a short period of time.
Overall though, the knife seems like a decent, sturdy little blade. I still struggle, however, to see what situations I would want to choose this knife in as opposed to other small knives. The CRKT Squid, for example, would always be a preferable knife to this for carry and use. The Meerkat, I think, remains a very interesting collector's piece that would still be capable of helping you take action if you are in a bind.

Soon: Kizer Gemini Goodbye, Steel Talk, and a bunch of new knives!
Thanks for watching and take care!
