Unbox 801 313 & undressed

Published: 3 years ago

Unboxing the TS801 slicer and the TS313, both from NightMorning Design.

The 801 is the same blade as the 800, but made in a more traditional hexagonal Japanese handle with ebony (not stated in the listing, but it is of the TS606 that has an identical handle). It's also using 12C27 which is a little strange to me when they have tons of 14C28N, as well as 10Cr and even 15Cr they've utilized for other kitchen knives.

The TS313 was a very talked about model when it released earlier in the year. I was able to get this thing for $160 on Amazon, and got $40 knocked off due to credit card points. For $120, I love this thing. It's a tank, drop shutty and a lot of fun to play with. If my only option was to get it for $200-250 though like most do though, I don't think the value's quite there.

It's got a couple things that make it not perfect though. The thumbstud is made much more for putting the thumb on top of to flick open, rather than behind it. You can accidentally access the very tip of the blade when it's closed. And lastly, it's hollow ground, but the stock is still pretty thick behind the edge. More of a bruiser than a delicate slicing master.

I also take a look on the inside, because of course I do.
