Ironfly Zesty: Micarta scales with VG10 Blade and subpar fit & finish
Published: 3 years ago
The design of this knife has a lot going for it. I like the dip at the top of the handle to minimize flipper protrusion and having a nice place for the thumb to rest. Things quickly start to disappoint however.
For the $58 price, the fit and finish is really not up to snuff with gaps between the micarta and liners. There was some rust located under the backspacer. The wire pocket clip is very flexible, so will be easily damaged (possibly why there's an extra in the box).
Economies of scale is a factor here, but what we end up with is a decent design trying to market VG10 as upscale, with fit and finish that other $25-50 knives exceed.
I hope the company the best in their future endeavors. I know this knife was a kickstarter project initially. Seems like they need to step up their manufacturing game to compete at their pricepoints though. Civivi, CJRB/Artisan & TwoSun blades are going to be a better bet thus far.
Specs:
3.4" VG10 blade with 3.5 mm stock thickness
4.14 oz / 117.5 gram weight
0.61" handle thickness (Micarta)
Liner Lock
Ceramic bearings & detent ball
