Slippy-J Sunday: SixLeaf SL-07 Rattlesnake Design in Micarta with M390 Blade

Published: 3 years ago

This thing's a nice slipjoint! To tell the truth, I didn't have high expectations out of this thing, but it delivered above and beyond.

I guess that probably shouldn't be a surprise as Rattlesnake has shown that they have the capability to design good slipjoints (TS200 & TS246 being among them).

This thing was first offered like this, in brown natural micarta and M390. I've now seen some variants with green micarta and D2 out there and they might be cheaper to purchase, but probably about the same price if you're bidding on eBay.

Handle's nice and comfortable. Back spring is a great tension (7.5 or 8). I'm not the largest fan of a one-sided nail nick, but it does have roots in tradition.

I haven't done a cut test with this thing yet, but plan to. It took a bit of effort to sharpen, and had to be done on my belt grinder, as the blade isn't tall enough for me to clamp it to the WSPE or KME and get a 15 degree angle on it. So, it'll have to be done with a convex edge. The edge lasts a little bit longer, but the geometry makes it a bit more difficult to slice the rope.

Blade has a nice sand/bead blast finish. Just glad to see something other than satin on a blade at this point, but it's markedly different from a stonewash.

Specs:
3" M390 blade with 3.2 mm stock thickness
3.34 oz / 94.5 gram weight
0.53" handle thickness (Micarta)
