First Impressions: TwoSun TS219 "NightStalker" & TS308 "Suiryuu"

Published: 2 years ago

Taking a first look at these two that just came in.

The TS308 is pretty neat. Smaller than I thought it would be, but I guess that makes sense as the initial creator of this thing is/was 8 years old, so the handle makes sense for hands of that size. However it does extend out, much like the QSP Parrot, so I can get a full 4 finger grip on it.

The M390 on this felt a little interesting while sharpening. At first, it felt felt a bit soft, but quickly changed to feeling quite hard, like the stones were skating over the top rather than biting into it much. It took a damned long time to finally get the burr formed. That's mostly indicative of a "burned edge", this one was just more noticeable than others.

The TS219 is a newer Jelly-Jerry design. The ergonomics are EXCEPTIONAL on this piece. The blade is also a nice shape with compound grind as is usual for his pieces. This one in particular has some fit/finish issues.

First one is there's a bit of detent "slop". This is only noticeable if you're holding the knife flipper tab down and poking at it. It doesn't affect the deployment of the knife at all, but becomes evident if you play with it a lot.

The second one was one for a bit of concern. There was some blade wrap out of the box, right at the apex of the straight and belly of the blade. I'm happy to report that after a single sharpening, that has been resolved. So it looks like it was probably a bit "undersharpened" at the factory, like my TS139 Barracuda.
