Gaggle of TwoSuns Have Landed in My Mailbox
Published: 2 years ago
Got another set of TwoSuns in. Sadly, I can't say there are any "instant classics" in this set.
First up, the TS327 from Caleb Fechner. Even the high-end variant has flat slab scales. The blade grind is quite thick, which for me defeats the purpose of M390. Out of the two of them, I'd suggest the micarta one as a lot of the extra cost associated with the higher one just doesn't make it a better knife.
Next up, an oldie. The TS43. It's decently slim in the handle, but it's a very thick-stocked tanto. Not a bad knife, as NightMorning's early contributions go.
Moving on to the TS64, another oldie from NightMorning. I'm impressed by the grind on this thing. It's got a 4mm blade stock, but ground a lot like the TS223 Monarch, so it's exceptionally thin behind the edge. It's not an ergonomic masterpiece, and I'm not thrilled by large holes in a handle, but it's pretty good.
TS287. Very much a Wong design. It's a long blade. Even though it has a curve to it, I'm going to call it a straight-back as that's where the tip ends up. It kind of reminds me of a huge version of the TS158-CF.
TS333. I had some high hopes for this, as I loved the other D. Antimonov release, the TS323. This is an enormous sheepscliffe/wharnfoot with flat scales that don't really fit in a human hand that well, and has a terrible hot spot in the back when using a saber grip.
TS383. It's a NightMorning design with a ton of holes in it. It does help relieve some weight, but it's not a light knife. It also had a pretty egregious "snaggletooth" that I ground down. The lanyard hole in the back spacer creates a hot spot when using a saber grip as well.
TS286. Apologies if I covered this one before, I couldn't remember doing so. This is a Wong design, and it's pretty out there. Aggressively drop pointed and funky to look at, but quite comfortable in many grips and has great action. This pocket clip is inset into Micarta, but contains an additional anchor point to prevent damage.
