SOG Traction: Dumpster Fire Encapsulated in Knife Form

Published: 2 years ago

Yeah, the thumbnail is a spoof on Castlevania II. If you don't understand the reference, that's fine, just know that this knife is NOT one you should add to your collection.

I got this free with the Blade HQ 19th Anniversary sale, and I can see why they opted to off-load these.

The handle's uncomfortable, the backspring isn't flush with the scales, the backlock causes the blade to jump out of your control when deploying the blade, but prevents it from fully locking without further intervention, SOG's billboarding is at it's worst and 420 steel (like 7Cr) should be used as structural material rather than a blade steel.

I made this video about this knife in particular, not to "dunk on" SOG as a brand. They have been making some decently compelling options again lately. This is a prime example from the era that Walmart enticed them, CRKT & Kershaw into making terrible designs and shaving costs to the point that they shouldn't have been trying to compete... and I don't think any of them have fully recovered from that stigma.
