Kizer Cormorant XL: White Mountain Knives Exclusive thus Far
Published: 2 years ago
Aight, so in full honesty, I'm not the absolute biggest fan of the G10 scales for this thing. They have some sharp corners for the milling. Hopefully WMK or others like Mojave Outdoor will release a micarta or titanium version of the XL as that will mitigate that.
This time around, the XL knife isn't balls-to-the-wall like the Begleiter XL. This blade is a touch over 3 1/3" where the normal size is just under 3". That gives me a bit more grip on the handle. It's still not quite a full four finger grip using the index finger cutout, but you have plenty of room to choke up.
This thing has all sorts of deployment options. I'm surprised they didn't include an optional thumb stud in the box. I'm not particularly a fan of how the front flipper feels on it. It works just fine, but a button lock always feels strange to me when front flipping (affects the Hic-cup as well... but much less on the Chili Pepper).
I think the CPM-3V steel was the right choice for this thing. With how incredibly thin the blade is behind the edge, and the hollow grind, you need a TOUGH steel to resist deformation. 4V would also have been alright, but 3V is good enough and is tougher.
If you want a large(ish) knife that slices like a Swiss Army Knife, this little jammy might be right up your alley.
Specs:
3.38" (58.9mm) CPM-3V blade with 3 mm stock thickness
3.68 oz / 104 gram weight
0.51" (12.9mm) handle thickness (G10)
Button Lock
Ceramic bearings & detent ball
