Tacray DT-03: Interesting and Affordable Kitchen Utility Folder in Titanium & VG10 Steel
Published: 2 years ago
Picked this thing up when I saw Jared mention this on Neeves Knives.
It reminds me of a Liong Mah KUF, but only in purpose, not design. I like it, but there is some frustrating things with it.
First, since the heel of the blade is much further back than the handle, it's difficult for some sharpening systems to reach that. I made it easy on myself and took the knife apart and clamped the loose blade in.
Second, it's fairly difficult to disengage the lock bar. There's zero lockbar access, and there's quite a bit of tension on it, so it does take a lot of effort to close.
Third, and minor, the pocket clip is a little difficult to get into a pocket. Mostly due to the clip landing in one of the milled pockets. It's not terrible, but it's not second nature either.
On the plus side, I like the blade. It's a "modified" wharncliffe, so you can rock a little bit with it. Maybe only for cutting up herbs or maybe a garlic clove, but it works, and helps with the knuckle clearance. It's also decently thin, so you're not likely to mess up things like apples when slicing through them.
Still, for a knife designed partially for food prep, this thing could use more grip. Either texturing to the titanium, or inlay something into the milled pockets.
Specs:
3.6" (91.3mm) VG10 blade with 3.2 mm stock thickness
4.02 oz / 114 gram weight
0.47" (12.1mm) handle thickness (Ti)
Frame Lock
Ceramic bearings & detent ball
