TwoSun Tuesday: TS191 "Gulper" Mazwan Mokhtar Design with 3.71" S90V or D2 Blade in Ti and CF inlays

Published: 2 years ago

This is a nice slicey knife from Mazwan Mokhtar. It'd been recently updated to make it 10 grams lighter by doing away with the more expensive clamshell design. They also changed the blade steel from S90V to D2, but based on TwoSun's older treatment of PM steels, you might not be losing much in the way of edge retention between the two.

Of course, TwoSun has improved their treatment for their PM steels, being a little on the softer side, but still acceptable range, the S90V versions of this knife predate that. Maybe you got a lucky one, maybe you didn't.

Anyway, I appreciate the thinner blade stock, as their main MO is 3.8mm or 4mm and this one is much less. They still make up for a it a bit by having it not be a full flat grind, but it's still quite nice.

Outside of the flipper tab not giving you quite as much leverage as others, there's not a whole lot I can complain about with it. It's a nice thin profile and comfortable in the hand.
