TwoSun Tuesday: TS195-Square "Silverback" Mazwan Mokhtar Design Ti Integral with 3.21" M390 Blade

Published: 1 year ago

Alright, this is a "big dog" as far as popularity of the brand is concerned. They've made a decent amount of integrals over the years, but this one to my knowledge is the only one that remains in production (of course we'll have to see about the TS142 & TS389).

It's a fun "seax" blade... functionally a wharncliffe, but sometimes the seax moniker is added to taller blades with that configuration. I appreciate that it's a thinner blade stock. It still has a rather stout geometry to it, so if it were 3.8 to 4mm in thickness, it just wouldn't work.

The fullers make a great way to deploy via slow thumb roll or spidey flicking, but they are VERY acute. They're obviously not going to cut you, but they will grab. If it's not to your liking, you can soften the transition with a ceramic or diamond stone rather quickly.

This thing is heavy, unlike most of their other integrals. The spine of the handle is left VERY thick. It gives it a rigidity you rarely get from folders, but that cost comes from the weight of all that titanium.

The handle has a nice gradual swayback that makes it nice in a reverse grip as well as a "paring" grip.

I will say though, this thing's action, while smooth, feels like it has much more friction on the close than others. It's far from a drop shut, even after alleviating some pressure from the lockbar.

As an aside, this thing has a front flipper in addition to the standard flipper and fullers. While it works, I don't find it anywhere near as comfortable to deploy as the other methods.

4.51 oz / 128 gram weight
