Review: Vosteed Valkyrie Seax (with plenty of talk about the Trek Lock troubles)

Published: 1 year ago

I take some time to review this knife.

The company seems to be getting some cult-like following lately. It's possible that it's due to them communicating openly with their community, but I'm not going to lie and say that their official Facebook group doesn't feel a touch saccharine sweet. I don't think they're grooming their comments, but maybe a touch of the electric Kool-aid is shared with a lot of the community.

When I recorded this video, there was quite the hubbub about a couple issues with this piece, but of the Trek Lock at large. Both the button lock unscrewing, and that it doesn't take much pressure from a spine whack to disengage the lock. That's what the back half of the video is about.

Anyway, the blade itself is good. I chose the Seax blade over the sheepsfoot. I wanted something with a bit more of a pokey tip, and I have a few other seax blades in my collection that I enjoy.

With the multitude of deployment options, I personally feel like the front flipper is the "red-headed step child" of the options. If I deploy it that way with a relaxed grip, the back flipper hits my finger. It's not just this blade though, I feel the exact same way with the Cormorant and Cormorant XL.

The size is fun. Large enough to get work done, but not too large for today's EDC crowd's taste. Surprised they didn't fancify it with multicolor G10 and/or Micarta as options, but I'm alright with that.

3.56 oz / 101 gram weight
