TwoSun Tuesday: TS316 Wong Design in Titanium With 3.46" 14C28N Blade
Published: 1 year ago
Yeah, I like this thing a lot. Jared from Neeves Knives didn’t seem to like this one as much as a lot of us do, but outside of the plunge grind, he couldn’t seem to articulate what about it he found lacking. Perfectly fine, some knives just don’t jive with some people for reasons that are hard to pin down.
It makes me happy though. Big ol' friendly wharncliffe shape, reminds me of a goofy large dog just doing their best to make us happy, for better or worse. Thumbstud action is great, and they don’t stick out too far since the beast is on the thicker side.
Stonewashed 14C28N, the way it should be. Blade geometry is quite good, and it even starts with a touch thinner of blade stock than they default to.
It’s possible that if your hands are wet, this thing might get a bit slippery, but in the same basic way that most handles will unless they’re severely textured.
Having a bit more lockbar access might have been nice, but I think in order to do it right, there would have to be more milling required around that index finger area that’d take away from the simplicity that it has, so I can understand that from a design perspective.
Still, if this evolved into a crossbar lock with some added scallops for the index finger area and an improved plunge grind (which crossbar locks tend to enforce), I might get damp, which is either impressive or gross since I’m a dude.
Specs:
3.46" (87.8 mm) 14C28N blade with 3.65 mm stock thickness
6.16 oz / 175 gram weight
0.59" (14.9 mm) handle thickness (Ti)
Ti Sub-Frame Lock
Ceramic bearings & detent ball
