Slippy-J Sunday: Trivisa Gemini 2.95" M390 Blade with Titanium & Ironwood Construction

Published: 1 year ago

Well, I was interested in what Trivisa would come up with for a high end slipjoint, and this is what we got. It does come with a leather pouch that looks like it’s larger than needed, but it might also be included in the other couple slipjoints they made as well.

It has some interesting looking “file work” on the backspring which does look attractive, but that backspring is WAY too weak. I’d only really suggest it if you’re a veteran of using slipjoints properly, as the spring won’t save you if you poke something at the wrong angle, it’ll just fold back up on ya.

The ironwood inlays are nice, but there’s not much in the way of chatoyance which is quite achievable and desirable with that wood.

The thing that does worry me a bit is that it’s made out of titanium, but the alloy doesn’t feel anywhere near as dense or rigid as others. My guess is it’s not TC4/6AL4V. The advantage is it’s nice and light, but it also feels like aluminum, so not nearly as premium. It’s certainly not a competitor to the Jack Wolf or Viper knives.

It’s a neat knife overall, but probably priced too high at $130, even with the M390.
