Maxace Black Mirror & TwoSun TS129 Comparison
Published: 1 year ago
Well, I had the idea to do this for a while, and even filmed it, but it died alongside a hard drive failure, so here it is again.
I had heard from quite a few folks that Maxace does a great job on their heat treat for knives. I experienced that myself with their K-series knives using K110 steel, and it does feel harder and outperform most D2 out there. This didn’t follow through for the M390 that I have here on the Black Mirror. It’s terrible, but neither is the TS129. They feel pretty similar to me in how they reprofiled, when they start to lose an edge, and the effort of stropping to bring them back.
I go over quite a few reasons on why I prefer the TS129 over the Black Mirror. There is some size difference, but it doesn’t feel much different in the pocket, and there’s only a 14 gram difference of weight between them.
I don’t want to give a wrong impression, both of these knives are good, and both have some flaws. I get so annoyed by modern communication on the internet that everything has to be binary. Something either being the best thing ever, or absolute trash and any opinion outside of that is invalid for the ~10 seconds that someone wants to divulge to a subject. It’ll probably only get worse with the rise in popularity of TikTok, YouTube Shorts and the like, but it’s been going on for far longer… possibly being adopted by how US political antics have been shown for a couple of decades.
