TwoSun Tuesday: TS147 Y-Start & NM Collab in Micarta with 2.17" D2 Blade

Published: 1 year ago

I’m not gonna beat around the bush here, this knife sucks. Thanks for coming to my TED talk…

Seriously though, this is one of the few collaborations between TwoSun and Y-Start, and like the other ones, I think that TwoSun manufactured the blade and did the final assembly, but a lot of the innards were probably from Y-Start. The liners and bearings are not what TwoSun uses on any of their other products.

The blade itself is pretty bad as well though. It’s insanely thick, and too thick behind the edge that they didn’t bother to fully sharpen it. There’s a deep channel on both sides of the blade, but it’s buried in the handle, so it’s only use is to billboard that Y-Start was associated with it.

The micarta used seems to be the standard Chinese “Flax Fiber” which is much better than TwoSun’s Meh-carta, but it’s not adding much texture that G10 doesn’t have.

The deep carry clip is incredibly uncomfortable with and without using the finger choil, and it’s using the large domed callout pivot collars. This thing is balls and I highly doubt they’ll do another run of these.

Bottom line: do you want a smaller knife like this from TwoSun? Pick up the TS314. The blade’s more useful, it uses 14C28N steel, TwoSun manufactured parts, highly textured G10 and the pocket clip isn’t uncomfortable… oh, and the blade actually comes sharp out of the box.
