The KA-BAR Slabby Overbuilt, Garish & a Hand Tank My opinion & Correcting some issues.
The Slabby, as described by KA-BAR themselves as Overbuilt, Garish and a hand tank. It's heavier than a classic, especially since it forgoes the tapered "full tang" of the original and has two slabs on either side of its true full tang. But here is the issue, the slabs do not have any texture. The other is that the sheath, for the price does not come with a mounting solution. No belt loop, no ten-lok. Mind you that the sheath has a very nice retention system but for the price? From the KA-BAr website it is 245.22 and where I purchased it, Knife Center it goes for 171.95.
With all of the knives available on the market it does make one wonder why it isn't a complete system.
To deal with the issues of the smooth "slabs" I went to Carrol's Custom Knife Scales black linen micarta slabs. For the lack of a belt loop I am using a nylon belt loop mount that I had made many years ago for times just like this. They are playing on their rich military heritage to get people to purchase this knife but they need to do better with so many other great knives on the market.
