I had several members asking me how I tuned my Zaan to make the lock bar lighter. Here are the instructions to do it but I warn you.
NOTE. THIS SHOULD ONLY BE ATTEMPTED BY SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE WORKING ON KNIVES. IF YOU GET THE TITANIUM TO HOT IT WILL ANODIZE AND KILL THE VALUE OF YOUR KNIFE.
Zaan lock Bar relief
You have to remove the over travel stop and push the lock bar back some but it’s not easy. The lock bar stabilizer is pressed in there and loctited. You have to heat to 150 degrees to release the loctite then gently pry out.
Get a very small flat head and pry it between the scale and the head of the over travel stop. They left you a small gap there. Just do a tiny bit at a time on each side after you heat to 150 degrees with a hair dryer or heat gun. If you get it to hot it will anodize the Titanium. Big problem.
Reassemble and test a couple of times before you reinstall the OTS. Make sure it’s perfect. Light but with zero lock rock. Then put a small drop of blue loctite and tap it in with a small hammer. Protecting the top of the OTS with a piece of plastic
