WingMan EDC MDD-K Knife Consult -- Hype or Heat?

Published: 5 years ago

When two legendary makers collaborate, knifenuts rejoice. Tom Mayo and Lee Williams are among the very best custom knifemakers, with decades of experience and some of the most legendary knife designs ever.

The MDD-K from the new company WingMan EDC is has been hyped on social media for a few months now. Created by the folks at Recon1, WingMan EDC seeks to create knives based on custom designs from some of the best makers in the world. The MDD-K is based on the Tom Mayo "Doctor Death" knife, and features Lee William's licensed "KickStop" flipper mechanism (MDD-K).

But what is this knife exactly? It appears to me to be a vehicle to being the KickStop into the production world. The translation of a 4 inch custom design to a 3.25" model seems a bit off, its execution is a bit lacking in terms of production refinements, and the price of $400 seems a bit steep in today's crowded market.

TL;DR: Only get this if you NEED a KickStop in your life. Otherwise, its just another framelock flipper from a hype machine knife dealer.
