SOG Traction Tanto, Full Review. A Very Light Full Size Folder Looking for Your Attention

Published: 8 years ago

The SOG Traction knife comes in either the Tanto or the Clip Point variety. The type of steel used on the blade is either 5Cr15MoV or 5Cr17MoV depending on if you believe SOG's website or their packaging. And that is where the odd things start on this knife.

There are a few good things going for this knife. The biggest two being how light the knife is and the second how super ultra extreemely deep carry the tip up pocket clip is. But that doesn't go far enough to make this a knife that I would recommend buying.
The thumbstud can get in the way of slicing through items and worst of all, the knife is held together via rivets and not screws. This means that you cannot make any adjustments to the knife and it already comes with blade play form the factory, blade play that will only get worse over time without giving you any way to address and remedy the issue.

I am calling this knife "disposable". Even though it does come with a Lifetime Warranty, it is still disposable, at least in Canada where the cost to ship the knife back to SOG USA costs as much as buying a brand new knife. When I say the knife is disposable, I mean that this is a knife that is made to be used until it is used up and then tossed out. It is an anti-maintenance type knife. That may be what the some in the youngest generation are looking for, but my bet is that most knife folks don't like that idea at all.

If you are still interesting in getting this knife, since the prices are quite low, especially in USA, you can use these links.
(If you use my links you will support this channel and still pay the lowest prices)

Is it any wonder why Canadians buy knives overseas, even at the risk of CBSA taking some of those knives away? Even if the knives are not illegal according to the Criminal Code CBSA often seizes knives anyway. Well "often" is a strong word, they only inspect a minority of packages but of the packages inspected the odds of having a knife confiscated are pretty high. Yet at these prices I will continue to by foreign knives.
