Knives might be THE most important tool that human society has come up with, and we have perfected it over millennia until it has become a piece of art and yet, it remains a key tool for humanity.
Keeping a knife sharp and ready for use is one of the goals we always strive for. We need ways to keep our knives sharp for as long as possible and we are constantly looking for ways to quickly get our knives BACK to that sharp and ready state when they do come to a point where they need maintenance.
Stropping on leather has been around for so long that there is no way to find out where the idea came from. And yet, many people don't strop or they don't know how to strop. In this video I attempt to show a simple way to prepare and use a leather strop so that your knife won't have to be sharpened as often. Traditional sharpening removes a fair amount of metal in order to make a knife sharp, stropping is a way to reach that goal without loss of metal.
