I got tired of contorting my hands in weird ways while trying to hold a knife and loosen some screws. I ended up stripping a lot of screws in the process. Until I got the idea of using a vise to hold my knife while I work on it. Since I got a vise I have stripped very few screws because it is much easier to maintain strong downward pressure while rotating the screwdriver. Without the downward pressure, it is easy to allow the driver to slip out and begin to round off the edges of the screw head.
