HomerSteel’s First Knife Is an Absolute Winner!

The HomerSteel VAREX is the brand’s first production knife—and for a debut model, this one makes a seriously strong impression! Homer Steel has reportedly spent around 10 years working as an OEM, and that experience shows in the VAREX’s excellent fit and finish, smooth crossbar-lock action, titanium construction, and outstanding handle milling.
The VAREX features titanium scales and hardware, a reversible deep-carry titanium pocket clip, dual thumb studs, and a satin-finished 14C28N drop-point blade. Instead of bearings, the knife runs smoothly on bronze washers, giving it a solid, dependable feel with plenty of potential to become even smoother as the washers break in.
At approximately 7⅝ inches overall and weighing around 3.5 ounces, the VAREX is slightly larger than the Benchmade Bugout but smaller than the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. The straightforward design may look familiar, but the exceptional milling, comfortable ergonomics, secure pocket carry, and overall construction help it stand out. My only real criticism is that the thumb studs sit slightly within the cutting and sharpening path.
