A week of Carry with the Spyderco Sage 5. Review follow up thoughts.
Published: 8 years ago
Ok so last week I put out a fairly short review of the Sage 5, and I got asked a question. Other than what the hell is your problem. So how sharp was it after the use seen in your review. The answer is still hair shaving sharp. Quite a fews other viewers chimed in saying that Spyderco S30V holds it’s edge a really long time. And although I’ve only had this blade a short amount of time- I don’t think I’ll need to sharpen it for quite a while. I’ve used it at work for cardboard, ducktape, I’ve taken it hiking, used as my steak knife, bought it flowers, and sang it a love song. You know normal knife stuff.
The edge still looks and behaves like nearly new. But yeah the edge is good. What about other thoughts. Now since I’ve misplaced my bit set I used to tighten my pivots… I was unable to adjust it. Remember I said it was a little stiff, as was the compression lock. Well that’s broken in now. It still isn’t the easiest to deploy quickly with my thumb… but since it’s broken in, now I can do a safe middle finger deployment. In fact, it’s the best way to deploy it. Also the blade falls much easier now that the lock isn’t as stiff.
I’ve also gotten use to holding the handleand the choil… so it fits my hands well. The blade is still a little short of being perfect for me. I like to cut an apple without too many passes around it.
But it’s still lighter than my Endura 4, and feels great in my hand. So unless something drastically changes… it has replaced my Endura as my new EDC. I don’t need a long blade for work, so it’s lighter small frame is friendly for pocket carry. Anyway, if you like this video, go check out my original review, give this video a thumbs up, and leave a comment. Thanks for watching.
