The Spyderco Shaman Salt (Blackout Edition) is a relatively new addition to Spyderco’s lineup, officially debuting in the 2025 product catalog (Volume 17) and hitting shelves in late 2025. It represents the "ultimate evolution" of the Shaman by merging its heavy-duty ergonomics with the extreme corrosion resistance of the Salt Series.

History
The Shaman was originally designed by Sal Glesser as a "larger, beefier" version of the iconic Native model—essentially the Native on steroids. While the standard Shaman is a fan-favorite workhorse, it traditionally used steels like CPM-S30V that, while excellent, can struggle in highly corrosive environments.
In 2025, Spyderco responded to the demand for a "salt-waterproof" version. Unlike previous Salt models that often featured bright yellow handles, this specific Blackout version was designed for tactical applications, featuring a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating and black G-10 scales to maintain "light discipline" and a low-profile aesthetic.
