Description: Riaan Manser is a full-time knife maker from South Africa. Manser works under the brand name 3LegDog -- named for his pit bull cross dog which lost its hind leg when still a puppy. Manser and his dog spent many days and nights sitting along side each other in the knifemaking studio. Regretfully, his beloved dog passed away during the summer of 2018.
This Custom Model P6 Flipper blade is hand ground premium Bohler M390 stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 62. M390 takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it due to its high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powdered metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The hand satin finished blade features a high flat grind.
The blade runs on caged ceramic bearings made by Derek Rausch. Stainless steel bearings can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize. The blade is well centered, has silky-smooth, drop-shut action, and is easily opened single-handed using the flipper tab. Copper wires move through the woven carbon s
trands. The scales are nicely domed for a perfect grip. Titanium liners surround a black G-10 backspacer. The handle is completed with a titanium pocket clip mounted for tip-up, right handed carry.
