Silver Inlay Bolster from an 1800s Wagon Wheel | Custom Nakiri Build Media

Published: 2 weeks ago

Seventy hours. One bolster. A piece of wrought iron pulled from a wagon wheel rim forged over a century ago.

In this video, custom knife maker @Arik.miller walks through his newest build — a 7" Nakiri in 1084/15N20 Damascus with a Hawaiian koa handle and a wrought iron bolster hand-inlaid with fine silver. He breaks down where the iron came from, why wrought iron (softer and more forgiving than modern steel) is uniquely suited to inlay work, and what it actually takes to hammer silver into a dovetail groove one hammer strike at a time — where a single miss can undo hours of work.

This knife is available now as a one-of-one piece. Link below.
