This week’s Steal is a line of kitchen knives that are sure to make even a non-chef’s life just a little bit easier: this is the Gourmet series by WÜSTHOF.
Now, we’ve talked about kitchen knives once before on this channel, but I know a lot of the people out there aren’t willing to break the bank for a diamond meat cleaver or the like. These WÜSTHOFs offer a great balance between price point and functionality.
When buying for your kitchen, it’s best to start with a few quality essentials and build from there, rather than splurging on a fifty-piece kit with a dozen steak knives you’ll never use. The very barest of these essentials is an eight-inch Cook’s, or Chef’s, knife. Very versatile, it’ll handle nearly all the big jobs you need to tackle in the kitchen.
Next up is a paring knife like this three-inch spear point, which is great for peeling vegetables and fruits and smaller, odds-and-ends tasks that don’t require breaking out the big, bad chef’s knife.
A good bread knife can do more than simply slice through loaves of honey wheat. It’s also useful for softer foods or foods that squish easily when slicing like tomatoes.
And finally, kitchen shears. I’ve harped on these before, too, but it bears repeating: few things are as useful in your kitchen – and your home in general – as a solid pair of shears.
Overall, the WÜSTHOF Gourmet series proves that a functional set of kitchen knives doesn’t have to break the bank. What’s more, the entire series of these knives are on sale through June on our website, KnifeCenter.com, so there’s no better time than now to buy.
